Bonny Morton has received the Audi Foundation–Country Education Foundation (CEF) Launching Star Award for 2025. Bonny was recognised for outstanding academic achievement, community service, and personal growth at an event at NSW Parliament House.
The fourth-year student studying a Bachelor of Forensic Science/Bachelor of Laws at the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) received the award as part of the 2025 Audi Foundation-CEF Alumni Awards. The Awards honour five past and present CEF-supported students who demonstrate merit, commitment and dedication to their studies or training, and are making standout contributions in their communities.
The Audi Foundation–Country Education Foundation Launching Star Award is presented to a current student in their third year or beyond who has demonstrated a bright future and commitment to their goals.
CEF CEO Wendy Mason commended Bonny on her commitment to her educational journey.
“Bonny’s drive and determination to overcome obstacles to pursue her dreams was evident in her application, particularly in high school, having to adapt to distance education while navigating other challenges such as the COVID-19 pandemic,” Ms Mason said.
“She embodies all that this award represents, and we congratulate her on everything she has achieved.”
Bonny said receiving the Launching Star award was a personal honour and credits CEF for their support throughout her journey.
“The financial support and mentorship I received through my local foundation, CEF Merriwa, especially in my first year, lifted a heavy burden – both financially and emotionally, and allowed me to focus on my studies,” Bonny said.
Bonny made reference to the unwavering support provided by her local foundation, particularly from Jane Hegarty, and believes CEF’s work is vital for students like her who might otherwise struggle to pursue their dreams.
”There is a high cost of living in Sydney, and I was worried I’d need to work extra hours to afford everything, including textbooks and university supplies. This could have meant choosing between lower grades or switching to part-time study.
The CEF grant meant I didn’t have to make that choice, allowing me to maintain a healthy balance between university, work, and social life.
