WHAT EXACTLY IS IT?
The Gap Year Guide was developed to assist rural and regional students taking a year (or more) off between high school and further studies. The guide is free to use for students, their families and anyone helping students through the process of deciding whether to gap year and how to gap year.
Each month new topics are covered with videos and podcasts featuring real life stories as well as interactive decision making tools and checklists.
WHY?
A 2017 report from the National Centre for Student Equity in Higher Education (NCSEHE) shows over 40% of regional students with an ATAR over 75 aren’t going to university straight after high school. We also know the longer a student puts off study after high school, the less likely they are to take up tertiary education. In fact, as few as 5-6% of students who take a gap year transition to university.
The Gap Year Guide project has come from a collaboration of CEF and three leading Australian universities – the University of Sydney, University of Canberra and University of Wollongong.
CEF’s involvement and support in this project is crucial to ensuring rural and regional students and parents have better access to ‘real’ information about their post school options and university.
