Letter from the Chairman
July 2023

Dear Friends and Supporters of the Country Education Foundation of Australia,

I hope this finds you well. I wanted to update you on some news regarding the Country Education Foundation of Australia’s leadership.

Our CEO, Juliet Petersen, has advised the Board she will be stepping down after 7 years at the Foundation, effective 1 December. Juliet has made the decision to pursue further studies and spend more time supporting her own children as they complete their final years of school.

During Juliet’s tenure, the Country Education Foundation of Australia has experienced solid growth and impact, exemplifying its commitment to empowering students in rural and regional communities across Australia. Under her stewardship, the Foundation achieved several milestones, including:

  • Provision of 2,550 individual grants and scholarships to rural and regional students.
  • Contribution of over $7,318,343 in financial support, representing a steady growth of 28% in total value of support to our students.
  • Introduction of additional funding for students in the Vocational Education and Training (VET) sector, a groundbreaking step for the Foundation.
  • The launch of new campaigns including – a national matched giving campaign and the implementation of the new CEF Extra, a bespoke national scholarships program.

The Country Education Foundation of Australia takes great pride in these accomplishments and recognises Juliet for her unwavering dedication and leadership that has firmly positioned the organisation for continued success. Her efforts have paved the way for the new CEO to build upon these achievements and drive further growth.

As the Foundation transitions to new leadership, the Board assures its supporters and partners that their commitment to the mission remains steadfast. In collaboration with People for Purpose, a comprehensive search process is being conducted to identify a new CEO who possesses the necessary expertise, vision, and values to lead the Foundation into its next exciting phase.

We will ensure we find the right individual who shares the Board and team’s unwavering dedication and commitment to growing our impact and partnering with rural and regional communities across Australia to create opportunities for all students to thrive.

The Board joins with me in recognising and thanking Juliet for her passion and leadership of the Country Education Foundation over the past four years.  We extend our very best wishes to her future endeavours.

I also extend my deepest gratitude to all of you who make such a valuable contribution to our work and hold an unwavering belief in our mission.

Warmest regards,

Nick Burton Taylor AM
