Braidwood sheep shearer Lochie Ramm has taken out the Country Education Foundation of Australia’s Community Alumni Champion award as part of its 2023 Alumni Awards.
Student: Lochie Ramm
Local CEF Foundation: Braidwood and District Education Foundation
Course: Bachelor of Agricultural Science
Institution: Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga
Mr Ramm, an alumnus of Braidwood and District Education Foundation (BDEF), a member of the CEF network, was named as one of five winners of this year’s awards.
He received a $3000 grant from BDEF and a $1000 scholarship from CEF through its partnership with Southeastern Livestock Exchange.
Both helped him cover costs related to his studies in a Bachelor of Agricultural Science at Charles Sturt University Wagga Wagga campus.
Since finishing his degree he has been very busy, working on the family farm as well as sheep shearing for other properties across regional NSW.
He started sharing his passion for farming and agriculture online with a YouTube channel and an Instagram page, both called ‘Our Farm Life’, to showcase his work and teach the general public all about best farming practices.
His YouTube channel has attracted almost 3000 subscribers in the last two years, with his Instagram page having a following of almost 9000.
He said he was “humbled” and “grateful” for receiving his award.
“It was totally unexpected,” he said.
CEF got my studies started in the right direction. I used the money I received to help cover university and accommodation costs. It was a big help.

He said his goal was to eventually run his family’s farm, as well as leasing land in the agriculturally rich Riverina region to start farming there too.
