A boost to further education opportunities to rural and regional communities is to come from a new partnership between Country Education Foundation of Australia (CEF) and the University of New England Foundation.
Education grant assistance worth up to $40,000 annually will be available for rural and regional CEF-supported students who commence study at the University of New England (UNE) from 2020.

“UNE has a leadership team which is very enthusiastic about the new partnership and see its potential to ensure many more talented and ambitious students are supported during their education career,” said Country Education Foundation of Australia CEO Wendy Cohen when marking the new partnership in Armidale as part of a meeting with CEF-supported students and UNE Vice Chancellor Professor Annabelle Duncan.
“UNE shares CEF’s commitment to levelling the playing field for rural and regional students and helping to secure better education outcomes for them and their communities,” Ms Cohen said.
Along with offering additional co-funding, a possible rural and regional student networking scheme was slated as a future possibility during the meeting.
Ms Cohen said UNE and CEF could possibly work together on more projects in the future to broaden impact of the partnership.
“We hope this might be the start of a more formal peer support network based at UNE for CEF students, she said.
“Country kids can face unique circumstances when they leave home to study and no doubt, when they join forces, they have a much greater chance to overcome these challenges and build lifelong connections which can be profound and life-affecting.”
